My family recently moved to New Mexico which meant we had to go down to the DMV to get new licenses. We already had drivers licenses from Florida which were verified with REAL ID. I thought it was going to be a very simple process.
Wrong answer.
New Mexico does not recognize Florida’s REAL ID drivers license. So we had to go through the process from ground zero. I literally made 3 trips to the DMV before we finally had everything we needed to actually get our new licenses. Here is how it went down.
FIRST TRIP
I brought my lease and a valid US Passport—REJECTED
I showed my US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card—REJECTED
I showed them my US Department of Homeland Security ID Card—REJECTED
I showed my Florida Drivers License which bears the REAL ID Gold Star and Veteran endorsement—REJECTED
SECOND TRIP
I brought my lease, leave and earnings statement from the US Department of Homeland Security, and my US Passport—REJECTED
THIRD TRIP
I brought my lease, a utility bill, and a US passport—APPROVED
My wife used her birth certificate, drivers License and our marriage license to prove her identity and her residency.
A US passport and a lease should have been the only items needed to prove I am a US citizen. I also did not see her validate these items via any sort of database. Who is to say ANY of those documents are valid? How does she know I didn’t pay $10,000 to buy a fake passport? How does she know I didn’t use ai to create a fake lease?
The reason why I was rejected the first 2 trips is because my mailing address and my physical address were different despite being in the same zip code. We do not have a mailbox at our house. We use a PO box. You are required to have 2 documents showing the same physical address.
In my next article, I am probably going to start talking about how the Federal government bypasses our 4th amendment to spy on all of us. These new revelations have caused me to completely redesign how we will deliver Mass Address.
When I was in school learning about programming, we were taught a simple principle. Your code is only acceptable if you are comfortable flying an airplane with it. If you wouldn’t get on an airplane running your code, you do not release that software.
